3.2 | How to Write an Email Message

A good email message should include these elements —

A Brief, Clear Subject Line

      • What is the email about?
        • "Question about Glacier Assignment"
        • "When is Waterways project due?"
        • "Keynote crashes when I try to Share"

Begin with a Greeting

      • "Hello."
      • "Good Morning,"

Write the message body like a very short note —

Explain with specific info

      • "I am having trouble…"
        • plus important details, like
      • "I have already tried…"
      • "My name is first last, and I am in your 4th grade class at Barrington."

When you are asking a question or reporting a problem, think about what information will help the person you are asking to help would need.

Add a Closing

      • 'Thank you"
      • "Have a nice day"

Sign your Name

      • Use your full name if the person does not know you
