1.1.6 | Install Software Updates

Apple continually updates the software for your iPad. These updates include new features, faster performance, and improved security, so you should install these updates when available.

When you see a Red Badge on the Settings App, it may indicate a software update is available. Get in the habit of installing the updates when available.

Software Update

Installation usually takes between 15 and 45 minutes, so it is good to plug your iPad into your power adapter during updates. If your iPad has a Passcode and/or TouchID configured, you will be asked for the Passcode after the update.

  • Open Settings and choose General.
  • Choose Software Update in the right panel.
  • After a few moments, the iPad will indicate that an update is available or that your iPad software is up-to-date.
  • If an update is available, click Download and Install.
      • The update will download (time estimates are provided). When asked, click Install.
      • The iPad will restart. If you haven’t yet created a passcode, you can do so when asked. Always remember your passcode! It cannot be reset without erasing the iPad.
